Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Questers and Strategists parties.

Fans can anticipate finding out which players will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
